Day Three

FIRST APPOINTMENT and ULTRA SOUND, Start Gonel F
Today Noah woke up early again at 5am. I tried to keep him as quiet as possible, so Neena got to sleep for an extra hour. We all got ready and then went down to breakfast as soon as it was ready at 7. We took a walk to kill some time before Noah's morning nap. It was kinda hard to get him to sleep, but he finally did. There was a group of very noisy teenagers in the lobby playing board games, and eventually they woke him up. Neena who also took a nap, was still asleep, so Noah and I played in the courtyard for awhile to let her get more sleep. When Neena woke up we packed up in a hurry and checked out at noon. We went to eat at a place up the street called Soda Tapia. They have a lot of ice cream and shakes and stuff.
At one we took a taxi to my doctors apt. It is a good thing that we left early(my apt was at 2) because we went to the wrong clinic! We went to the clinic listed on the Drs website, never being told any differently. Then we had to go 20 minutes all they way across town to the other one! I arrived exaclty at 2! So that is language barrier problem #1. I met with the Dr. to quickly go over my history and then I had my first ultra sound. He said my ovaries look great. ummmmmm.... and then I had to go to the grocery store to buy a bigger cooler, then to the pharmacy to buy the meds, and then back to the dr. so he could give me instruction on how to do the shots.
Neena had just gotten Noah to sleep in the lobby, so I went alone. The taxi Dr. must not have understood that I needed to go to get the cooler first, so we drove the 10 minutes to the pharmacy, and they would not give me the meds without a cooler.
Then the driver was lazy, and tried to go to a closer, but smaller grocery store, but they did not have a cooler. Turns out the store i asked him to go to was a half a block away... come on! So we went and got that cooler, and went back to the pharmacy, and of course I am paying the whole time. How can I really argue it when I can hardly speak Spanish?
So I got my meds, all $1,500 worth, and headed back to the clinic. I had my first Gonal F shot and he showed me how to do everything. The nurse had to bring Noah to Neena for my shot and he did not want to go. As the nurse carried him away, Noah did the sign for please, please, please! asking to stay with me. It was very sad.
That part was quick and we finally headed off to Jaco.
It was a little over 2 hours drive to the beach on the new road. Noah was awake the whole time, but at least the taxi driver had a car seat that he lent to us.
When we arrived to the hotel, I had not realized that it is way, way, way up this big hill, kinda in the mountains. It is nice because we are secluded and feel safe, and it is a great atmospher, but there is no resturaunt at the hotel and it is $4 each way for a taxi ride down into down.
We are going to try to only go into town once a day and eat left overs or buy groceries to save money on cabs.
We arrived around 7:30 although after a long day, it felt much later. We hadn't eaten since noon, so although we were tiered, we got ready to head back out. I ran in to the bathroom to brush my teeth. There, just above the light switch was the largest spider I have ever seen! Luckily our neighbor butch was just out on his balcony, so he came and caught the spider!
We had a yummy dinner in town. The language barrier was a problem again though. I asked for a medium pizza, and somehow ended up with a medium and large pizza, just for me! He must have thought I was very hungry!!!
There was a cat and two kittens and Noah was so excited to feed them pieces of ham from my pizza the whole time Neena and I ate.
When we got back to the hotel, Noah went right to sleep, but Neena and I stayed up WAY too late chatting.
We are excited to go in to town tomarrow and see what the beach is like!

Noah just loved getting to sit at the computer like Mommy

This is the pool in San Jose. Unfortunatally it was too cold in the city to use it!

Noah thought that standing on the armrest of this chair might be fun.

  1. Wow, you are having quite an adventure! I didn't know Neena was there with you--please say hello to her for me (if she remembers me) and give her a big hug. Words cannot express how grateful I am to her for giving her baby to you and Scott. I am so eternally grateful! She chose wisely! I love the photos (and wish you had one of that big spider!), especially the one where he looks like he's trying to take a binky out of the statue's mouth. Love you!
